DESCRIPTION:Open to all dancers\, whether beginner (exposed to swing basics) or advanced. Your chance to spruce up your Lindy Hop swing dancing. The workshops over four days. January 10\, 24\, 31 & Feb.7\, 2024 for a total of 8 hours. Jerry and Nancy Flood are your very talented instructors ! \nWORKSHOP 1: JANUARY 10\, 2024\nSession 1 (7-8PM) – Lindy Hop Introduction\nLearn / review the essential elements of rhythm and movement that enable the joyful and improvisational dance that is Lindy Hop. We will introduce the building blocks for grooving to swing music both solo (fun) and with a partner (more fun) \nSession 2 (8:15-9:15PM) – Lindy Hop – Standard Sequences\nLindy Hop classic partner sequences that cover a range of movements to begin to connect to the music and each other. \nWORKSHOP 2: JANUARY 24\, 2024\nSession 1 (7-8PM) – Lindy Hop – The Swingout\nBegin the journey of perfecting the Lindy Hop ‘basic’\, otherwise known as the Swingout. The swingout is an exhilarating dance step from which eventually springs all manner of improvisation and variation. We will cover Lindy Hop lead and follow skills. \nSession 2 (8:15-9:15PM) – Lindy Hop – Introduction to Charleston\nThe Charleston is the ancestor of Lindy Hop and remains an integral part of the dance. Learn Charleston from the ground up with the focus on including Charleston to your partnered Lindy Hop. \nWORKSHOP 3: JANUARY 31\, 2024\nSession 1 (7-8PM) – Lindy Hop – Either 6 or 8 Count\nLindy Hop is dynamic dance that incorporates 8 count and 6 count movement as well as 2\, 4 10 and 12 counts … whatever it takes. Learn how to switch between 8 & 6 count moves and connect to the music. \nSession 2 (8:15-9:15pm) – Lindy Hop – More Charleston\nAdding more Charleston to your partner dancing. Review basic Charleston movement that enables many lead and follow possibilities. Learn the classic Charleston steps. \nWORKSHOP 4: FEBRUARY 7\, 2024\nSession 1 (7-8PM) – Lindy Hop – Beyond the Basics\nLearn variations to some basic steps. Adding modifications to your basic steps is the beginning of the ability to improvise which makes Lindy Hop such a dynamic dance. \nSession 2 (8:15-9:15) – Lindy Hop – Lindy to Charleston\nRefine transitions to/from Lindy Hop and Charleston. Focus on the overall flow of the dance to achieve continuous movement. \nAT: Madison Community House\, 25 Cook Avenue\, Madison\, NJ 07940\nCOST: $100 for all four dates (8 hours).
